Fly anglers know that purple bugs catch fish, especially when you're fishing a chironomid "a non biting midge." If you look at the natural chironomids you'll see that most species are very reflective in uv light. Combine the uv coated body with the dark purple thread and you have a fish rippin bug! It gets down unlike most midge patterns that will need to be weighted and its proven to catch fish!
 
I like to fish it as a dropper under a dry fly during the warmer months, and for winter I'll rig two under an indicator. For euro nymphing I'll fish it as my dropper above a heavier point fly. I also fish it on my tenkara rod as a single nymph in smaller clear creeks. 
PRO TIP: Try 3 Fies, fish 2 midge 1 black and 1 purple with my caddis larvae and you got a fish catching trio!
